Around 10:15am this Saturday morning, Cannes was hit by an important power outage. The closing ceremony, which will take place this evening, will “proceed as planned” the festival says. In a statement, the festival announced having “switched to an independent power supply.”
Screen was first to report this news and announced that the power outage is currently affecting a large area of the Alpes-Maritime region. Thanks to the independent power supply, this morning’s press conferences, including The Mastermind’s could take place. All events taking place inside the Palais will also proceed as normal.
However, as announced by the festival, screenings taking place inside the Cineum theatre which is outside the Palais, are currently suspended and will “resume as soon as power is restored,” the festival says.
The press release also noted that “at this stage, the cause of the outage has not been yet identified.”
